Publish
Write or post on your own site. Your site remains the authoritative source for what you publish.
Follow
Choose feeds you want to read without joining a central directory.
Reply
A reply normally belongs to the reply author's own feed. The receiving site may display it, but does not become its authoritative home.
Moderate
Owning your site also means deciding what appears there. Remote participation does not eliminate local moderation.
URLs before accounts
A URL is the primary identity and discovery primitive. Feed addresses can be exchanged anywhere people already exchange links.
Static where possible, dynamic where useful
The public feed may be largely static and portable. Dynamic components can handle authoring, authentication, following, remote interactions, and moderation.
The removal test
An appealing goal is that if the YourFeed application were removed, the public archive could still remain as ordinary web content rather than disappearing into an inaccessible proprietary database.
